Find out which retailers are Christmas friendly and which aren't, and shop accordingly.  Use AFA's annual Naughty or Nice retailer list:

11/21/2017

Today's action is from The American Family Association (AFA):

"Which stores recognize Christmas in their advertising...and who's the Scrooge?

As the 2017 Christmas shopping season begins full swing, AFA has prepared its annual Naughty or Nice retailer list. We have taken the top national retailers and reviewed their websites, media advertising and in-store signage in an effort to help you know which companies are Christmas-friendly.

There are secular forces in our country that hate Christmas because the word itself is a reminder of Jesus Christ. They want to eradicate anything that reminds Americans of Christianity. That is why it is important to remind governments and companies to keep the word Christmas alive. AFA wants to keep Christ in Christmas and Christmas in America."

Use this list to guide your shopping this Christmas.  In addition in some cases AFA provides contact information for us to contact the companies, to either thank them for being Christmas-friendly or to let them know you will take your shopping elsewhere if they are not.

Kraft wants you to "Swear Like a Mother" in their Mother's Day ad. Tell them to pull this untrue and disrespectful ad at once:

5/11/2017

Today's action comes from One Million Moms:

"Kraft Macaroni and Cheese has decided to recognize mothers in the most bizarre way this Mother’s Day. Kraft is following a trend in crude commercials and decided to air a commercial that includes foul language or bleeping and similar sounding substitute words instead of curse words.

Most companies are honoring mothers for all the good they do, but Kraft is insulting and offending its target market instead. If Kraft didn’t want to be mushy or sappy with their latest ad that is fine, but there are a million other ways to have a humorous commercial without insulting moms all across the country.

[In their commercials] Kraft is “celebrating” mothers who swear in front of their children. Kraft suggests alternate-swear words for moms everywhere to make things right. And if they don’t, there’s always Kraft Mac & Cheese.

In the ad, a Mom who identifies as a Ph.D. “swearing expert,” says that 74% of moms have admitted to swearing in front of their kids. She then offers replacement swear words for moms to use, but in practice shows that moms use real cuss words.

Not too long ago, a major study and book, CURSING IN AMERICA, showed that less than 7% of Americans curse on the job and less that 12% curse in their leisure time. This study conflicts with the Kraft statement.

Kraft’s “Swear Like a Mother” ad is irresponsible and offensive. We all know children repeat what they hear. Is this really what Kraft thinks of us moms? Kraft just disrespected mothers on our holiday. It is never a good business practice to offend a large percentage of your potential customers, and this ad does just that."

Engage more deeply in our culture in 2017, as part of your New Year's Resolutions:

12/31/2016

Make greater cultural engagement part of your New Year's Resolutions.

This could take many forms.  It could mean participating in the actions featured on this site every day, or engaging more deeply in one particular issue or cause.  It could mean getting to know your neighbors better, resolving to share the gospel with one particular person, using a talent to produce God-honoring art of some kind, participating in a local March for Life, or volunteering to serve the needy in your community.  There are many possibilities, but please take a few minutes as the new year approaches to prayerfully consider how God might use you as salt and light in a new way in 2017.

Thank you for following Engage Daily!

Find the timely, conservative bill your specific federal legislators need to support, then write or call them:

8/13/2016

Today's action comes from Heritage Action for America, the advocacy arm of the conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation.  They have a unique tool which, according to your zip code, provides the timely, conservative bill which each of your federal legislators (Congressman and Senators) needs to support.

Here is a description of Heritage Action for America from its website:

"We hold Congress accountable to conservative principles.

For too long, big-government special interests have dominated Washington. Heritage Action believes Washington should work for America’s best interest, and we hold them accountable to ensure they do.

We ensure members of Congress hear directly from their constituents, including over 700,000 members of The Heritage Foundation and millions of others around the country who believe in our principles and share our vision of America’s future."

From the link below, scroll down to the red "Action Dashboard" in the middle of the page, and enter your zip code.

In the mobile version, you may have to click on "Scorecard" first, then "Dashboard" in the center

Send timely conservative message your legislators need to hear.

Take 5 minutes and urge your Senators to oppose forcing women to register for the military draft:

5/20/2016

Today's action comes from Concerned Women for America (CWA):

"We have gone from debating whether or not women should serve in combat to some advocating that they should be forced to serve in combat. Leadership should know better than to disregard basic biology in order to embrace political correctness.

Yet, this Tuesday, the Senate will vote on the National Defense Authorization Act, which currently includes a provision to expand the Military Selective Service requirements to female citizens aged 18-26. But, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) has offered an amendment which would strike the provision which forces our young women to register with the Selective Service. Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee supports the senator’s wise provision which puts America’s national security first.

Our military’s sole purpose is to protect our nation, not to serve as this administration’s laboratory for social engineering. We firmly believe in the equality of men and women, but that does not require us to ignore the physical differences and unique risks to women in combat particularly in the case of capture.

We strongly support the heroic, capable, and honorable women who chose and will choose to serve our country in the military. However, this issue centers around whether or not women are to be forced to register to serve in tip-of-spear combat roles should our nation reinstate the draft. Forcing women to serve in combat against their will is a deep departure in U.S. policy."

Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard toll-free at 1-866-720-3733.  (This would be a great telephone number to save in your cell phone!)  Tell the operator what state you live in and they will direct your call to your Senators' offices.

Ask them to support Senator Lee's amendment which strikes the provision requiring women to register with Selective Service.

When one religious minority is threatened in the Middle East, all such minorities are at risk. Help the Yazidis, here:

4/8/2016

Today's post comes from Global Citizen:

"On August 3, 2014, the so-called Islamic State waged an attack on the Yazidi people in Sinjar, killing more than 3,000 civilians and enslaving 5,000-7,000 more, mostly women and children.

Current estimates suggest 3,200 Yazidis remain in ISIL captivity. Yazidi, unlike other sections of the populations targeted by the radical group, were offered two choices: convert or die.

Yazidi women were used for sexual slavery. More than 20 Yazidi religious sites were destroyed, while more than 85 percent of the Yazidi population were forced out of their homes.

Led by Yazidi woman Nadia Murad, the surviving Yazidi community has requested that the International Criminal Court begin work in identifying the individuals responsible.

To do that, we need the Government of Iraq to give the International Criminal Court permission to act.
This will not only help protect the Yazidis and support efforts in prosecuting ISIL, but provide a clear legal and human rights framework in the interest of future regional stability.

Join us in supporting the brave Yazidis, like Nadia, in asking the Iraqi government and the international community to send this case before the ICC."
Petition Iraq to let the ICC identify those responsible for genocide.
