This Sunday I will begin highlighting the finalists for World Magazine's Hope Award for Effective Compassion. Over the course of the next two months I will highlight five such finalists, and will let you know when we can vote for the winner. The Hope Award for Effective Compassion recognizes Christian poverty-fighting programs that offer challenging, personal, and spiritual help, and which are not funded by government.
Today's finalist is from the midwest region: Friends Ministry. There are many praiseworthy aspects of this Christian ministry, but one unique one is that, "Friends Ministry aims to revive a work ethic by hiring residents to labor in [a] garden in exchange for financial assistance, and along the way teach about both God and budgeting. " You can "Like" them on Facebook here.
Thanks for engaging daily!
