"Incredibly, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has imposed a new 21 percent tax on churches and faith-based organizations for items such as the parking spaces charity employees use while working to serve the needy.
The ill-considered impact of this new tax on churches and charities results in this sad cycle:
- To pay the new taxes, charities must divert donation dollars intended for the needy and give those donations instead to the federal government.
- This diversion of donations to the government forces charities to cut back on their services, and the needy suffer the loss.
- The government must make up for the suffering it created, by funding new government services to the needy -- services previously provided efficiently and effectively by community-based and faith-based charities.
This cycle makes no sense. Tell your senators not to tax charity, but to support charity--by repealing this senseless tax.
