"At the urging of pro-abortion advocacy groups, over one hundred members of Congress recently introduced a new bill that, if enacted, would eliminate nearly all state and federal laws that in any way limit abortion. The bill (S. 1696, H.R. 3471) is formally titled the "Women's Health Protection Act," but is more accurately described as the "Abortion Until Birth Protection Act." Among other things, it would invalidate state laws that treat abortion in any way differently from other "medical" procedures, including waiting periods, ultrasound laws, regulations on abortion clinics, and limitations on late abortions. Language in the bill would also have the effect of requiring funding of abortion on demand in government entitlement programs, such as Medicaid. "
