The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was rejected by the Senate in 2012, but will soon come up for consideration again. While Christians should certainly help those with disabilities, because we know all humans to be bearers of God's image, we should also have concerns about this treaty. Why? Here is the conclusion of the HSLDA letter prepared for us to email our Senators:
"In conclusion this treaty unnecessarily surrenders U.S. sovereignty to unelected UN bureaucrats and will threaten parental care of children with disabilities. Our nation already has the gold standard of laws that protect Americans with disabilities, and our nation is the undisputed world leader in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities overseas. This treaty will hurt families by giving government officials the power to decide what is in the best interests of a child with disabilities, not the child's parents."
Email your Senators and ask them to again reject this treaty.
