This month, simply summon up the courage to introduce yourself to a neighbor you don't already know.
According to Trulia Research, only 53% of Americans know their neighbors' names. May it not be so among Christians!
Jim Donohue, an evangelism-equipping pastor at Covenant Fellowship Church in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, in the evangelism course Proclaim (www.proclaim.typepad.com), helpfully describes three progressive "sound barriers" Christians face in engaging non-Christians. The first is the "natural" sound barrier: actually starting a conversation with someone you don't know. The second is the "spiritual" sound barrier: shifting the conversation to one's spiritual beliefs or background. The third is the "gospel" sound barrier: sharing the gospel message itself.
Sometime this month, let's break the first of these, the "natural sound barrier," with a neighbor. Introduce yourself to a neighbor you do not know and engage them in conversation.
